A Breath of HeavenA Story by WiifTo my deceased Mother who died 9 years ago, today, who also loved music, made me love music, and made me everything I am. Rest in peace, you'll always be alive in my memories and writings, I love you.
Do you ever wonder how a carved piece of wood in the hands of genius can have control on your mood, and sometimes, even on the course of your life ?
God, music is, without a doubt, the second closest thing to magic, after science. Do you ever listen to a duo of a Piano and a Violin, and suddenly find yourself playing in that meadow you used to go to when you were a child, and the fireflies are all around you, and all you hear is the naughty laughs of your older brothers, and you mother telling them to stop running around ? And when the Piano slows down and the Violin starts to cry, you are transported to the day of your mother's funeral, and you can't help the tears that just keep streaming down your face, and everything is so vivid: the smell of that room, the feeling of your green cotton T-shirt on your shoulders, your older sister wearing all white, reading Quran and crying in a corner. Absolutely everything, the scenes, the smells, the sounds... all feel like it was yesterday, not nine years ago. Or do you ever find yourself in the year of your twentieth birthday whenever you listen to a sad Cello piece ? You are young and happy, you are in love, walking the streets of Tunis with your best friend, a young car driver passes by and honks his horn at you, so you laugh and walk away, joining the path of the trees with violet flowers. A strong feeling of nostalgia takes over you, and there would be nothing you want more in that moment than to hug your best friend and meet the love of your teenage years over a coffee in that Cafe called Liber'thé where ou used to always meet. And again, you are forever young, forever twenty.
Listening to a piece of music is, sometimes, all what it takes to change someone's life. You find love in a soft like summer rain Flute piece, and courage in the force and anger of a duo of Drums and electric Guitars. You find purity in a Harp solo, and some of your most important life decisions are taken when the little hairs on your arms stand up of pleasure and admiration when listening to an Orchestra play its magic. Listening to Fairouz's morning songs will never fail to make your day cheerful, and many of Yanni's pieces will sack the pain away, be it physical or emotional. When music is in the background, you laugh, and you cry, and you get frightened, and you feel pleasure, and you feel full, so how can music be anything but a Breath of Heaven ? © 2014 WiifFeatured Review
