Amelia's Sestina.<3
A Poem by wicked.wanderer
A sestina written for a friend who was going through an identity crisis. I've also written a poem to stop a friend from committing suicide, and I believe it to be one of my best; I'll have to see if I can borrow the only copy of it so I can post it here.
I see behind that mask,
Amelia.
Wish to see your heart
And all its glorious wounds.
You show me a band-aid
And point to the cotton-
‘See this cotton?
It has a mask.
We call it a band-aid.
I am not Amelia
But Lily’; yet Amelia’s wounds
Cover this Lily’s heart.
Imagine this heart.
Cover it in cotton,
Cover its wounds.
This mask
Of yours, Amelia,
Cannot be a band-aid.
So pull off the band-aid!
Show me your heart!
Amelia-
My Cotton-
Take off your mask
And let me heal your wounds.
Let the air kiss your wounds
Before applying the band-aid
That serves as mask,
That secures your heart.
Oh Amelia,
My Amelia-
Show me your wounds
So the cotton
From my band-aid
May coax your heart
From behind its mask.
Amelia, take me as your band-aid.
I promise to heal wounds, heal your heart
If you allow my cotton to take off your mask.

Amelia dropped her 'Lily' identity recently. She's my Cotton, and I am her Band-Aid, and we cannot exist without the other. :]
