He tried too hard

He tried too hard

A Poem by -

he couldn't see what I saw in him

so he put on a mask and

hid his face from me

while he spoke to me

thinking

this would help him

I told him thanks but no thanks

I cannot understand you through a disguise

I can't see the truth from the lies

I am trying to know you but

I cannot see the real you

to this day

I do not know this man

that I have interacted with

online

for almost one year.

He has written such beautiful poetry

told such wonderful tales

I have been inspired yet

I cannot see

what he means for me

and now

as we part ways

my heart bleeds to know

I walk away with no questions answered

no mysteries solved

only anger

and hurt

he has blamed me for not being able to listen

but I told him

I cannot search for you among hidden identities

he keeps on

and blames me

when we falter

I am a real woman

with a real heart

in need of a real man

is this so wrong?

help me to understand.

Just a bit of prose inspired by my old boyfriend Reggie Ramshackle. Those were the days weren't they bro!
