atlast, this fragrance

atlast, this fragrance

A Poem by highonwords

all i have it seems
is one more breath
before this moment escapes
into the wild enchantment
of things going gone

a plainspoken girl,
with hair hand-crazed
to a perm down her nape,
you weren't the mother
of my child, and yet

i imagined balsam trees,
flowers blooming to touch
darling, my world turned
to effervescence, purest,
withering to stillness

then i became someone
into and out of this shape,
i never imagined was becoming me,
a train passenger now,
i just left, sweetheart

you, in your sleep,
where i stop still breathing,
about to leave everything behind
before my heart stops my feet
it almost did but now

i'm still in love
with the silence, smooth rhythm,
rum-hazy, when love feels nothing
like the love i keep leaving,
that i closed my eyes

to breathe you last

This a very good piece of poetry. I could imagine the protagonist boiling inside with the urgency to be in love and also away from it. Torn in two. Great work.

What a romantic and sensual piece of writing. I enjoyed the enveloping sense of mood throughout. Well done.
