darkness between stars

i am love that doesn't tell how i feel.
not because i cant be put into words,
not because there isn't enough of me
to be seen or touched or felt -

do you believe that there is nothing
more than what i see, when i see you,
that all i see is a girl with black hair,
the way i see noon shadows and crowds,

the way my skin crawls back in itself,
my heart turns into a knot, and my mind
is as near as the feeling of stone,
no, i don't imagine your skin on mine

but you can't tell how i feel -
i have felt love's glory after the emptiness,
there is no glory but smoke and tar,
there is no bitterness now, but sweet

my heart won't ever budge from grazing
the other side of my mind, where it's you
and only you that comes to me, before it rains
and every time i don't see the stars
