all my lovers have gone

all my lovers have gone

A Poem by highonwords

all my lovers have gone,
they are portraits of flesh,
almost nude, bra straps
loose, perfect with eyes,
old as wine, kimono on skin,
mouths, a gnash of red blur,
because i remember them,
i could take it from you,

i leave soon for a walk,
my mind light as feathers,
almost touching, but lost
in flight towards nowhere,
i ran from the traffic,
the drunken lights to clear
my throat burned; i swallowed,
rather i want the dark
to swallow me painlessly whole

the streets so empty,
it's impossible to sleep,
the silence from everyone
sticks like a knife in my ears
the lanes, bold yellow lines
i could only trace as far
as the moon over the trees,
no one's going to come for me

You might enjoy the writing of Circe and h d e rushin.

As for this:

i leave soon for a walk,
my mind light as feathers,
almost touching, but lost
in flight towards nowhere,
i ran from the traffic,
the drunken lights to clear
my throat burned; i swallowed,
rather i want the dark
to swallow me painlessly whole

^ I'd say that part is the strongest.. I kind of catch at 'towards nowhere.' I guess it's an important distinction, but it seems to disrupt the flow. Something needs to be there before I ran tho.
