without you

without you

A Poem by highonwords

i didn't have to listen
to old love songs, i skip
suicidal headlines, don't
pull the dead to my face,
in hopes i look like them,
the heartbreaker's gone,
i'm a crossed-out name,
after city streets, a lake,
mountains, if i was buried
too soon, too deep, too close
between lovers, whose death,
whose life won't surface
above the wood and dust
over me, push me harder
away from empty streets,
dead little towns, heartless,
who'll jump into water,
before i ever see them,
on moonless nights, hopeless,
you can keep the old bed,
i won't be sleeping soon,
not until i am with strangers,
who won't ever know my name

Amazing piece! I love the rhythm this poem follows! Beautiful and dark imagery! Well done!
