the poet, all alone

the poet, all alone

A Poem by highonwords

they say he wrote poetry,
i've read some - great,
but how was he as he was,
was he kind, was he brave,
did he leave her like he did others,
before her for his poems,
was he happy, were they happy,
when he died in a home,
with pictures of cats
and old ladies on the walls,
he dreamed of going to Asia,
to see the Banaue, the Great Wall,
to write about the moon,
on the other face of the world,
to write one more poem,
about life, that eluded him,
completely, in search
of beauty among words,
and words, only and alone

your poem gave rise to many things Steph, but one I would say is that in my thinking, a real poet writes what she/he knows, has experienced either personally or in some form that is actual life. In every fabtasy there is truth and in every poem there is "life", a life lived and drawn upon even if in metaphor.

someone for whom life has eluded, can only put words on paper, can never write poetry. while I have never gone to the moon personally, I can still see faces and they all speak haiku and sonnets..

one of the qualities of poetry is how well it draws you into it, shakes you up and leaves you both mesmerized and wanting more... so Ms Steph, more words please!! ;0)

you are very right, curt - anyone who tries to write poetry without having experienced life won't be.. read more
sometimes all the emotions there in a poet are put into his or her poetry...but in real life...too hard to feel...and there are pictures in the mind of what he or she hoped to see one day...but it never got further than that...only dreams...and words to live with ...

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This is very creative & sparks ideas by the dozen! First, I love the premise of wondering who this person really was . . . even tho we've read all his/her words, do we really ever know a writer? Secondly, the possibilities that you came up with are so fresh & imaginative, it's mind-blowing to see such interesting details in a poem. Great job!
