the poet and her readers

the poet and her readers

A Poem by highonwords

metaphors, a poem, a song
i write them all, heart in hand,
a poet's scowl, always near
the reader's face, become one,
a lowly maiden, a tearful peasant,
tending to her dreams, until the season
is ripe for picking whole words,
spared from the poet's cuspids,
i sow the seeds at night, watch
them bloom in the morning
of your birth, a renascence
for you, the reader of this poem,
a dying for me, when i start
digging root-words in my heart,
will you stay with me for a moment,
i want to make you understand,
what i know about the world,
close to nothing, but a few words,
close to beating, almost making you,

feel

Your humility is shining in this poem. There's no assumption of a connection between poet & readers, but instead, a wish to connect, an invitation or beckoning. That's what makes your message sound hopeful & inviting. I thought for a moment you meant to use the word "renaissance" . . . but upon looking it up, I see that "renascence" is another spelling for that word. Thank you for opening your heart to us readers.
