wayfarer

wayfarer

A Poem by highonwords

the dark, growing eyes,
waking from cavernous sleep,
it feels its way to me,
a wayfarer, i have harnessed storms,
spun tornadoes from my palms,
and whispered songs to snakes,
i have come and gone,
desert to desert, stone to stone,
i have bitten the heads off birds,
before they could pick the light
off my eyes, i have sat, quietly,
with bare-boned tribesmen,
until the fire became embers,
embers became sated ash,
until they made for the plains,
the back-roads to the lights, far-off
and i was left alone,
between a pensive kiss,
a sore-eyed whimper

Quite an intriguing and thought provoking piece that flows rather elegantly ...

hi marvin - thank you so much for the wonderful visit and comment

A Native American feel, but also a romantic one. The awakening of love....painful at times....the passionate fire burns and then turns to ashes, but it is always worth it. I liked this, Steph. Lydi**

this is what i was thinking before reading the author's note.

i found someone waking up to a feeling of love, after hibernating her heart for a very long time...

and then---the speaker knows the risk...that pensive kiss will find response that is positive...or
a whimper as she steals away back to the hibernation.

i would leave out the note...and let readers respond to the poem as it speaks to them...

i really liked all the imagery that gave me visions of relationships...

This is a very cool poem. I really like the lines "I have harnessed storms, / spun tornadoes from my palms, / and whispered songs to snakes" - very intriguing and powerful. The image of the fire becoming embers and then ash is also very cool, and the structure of how it is presented is excellent. Nicely done!
