walk with me

walk with me

A Poem by highonwords

I would like to take a walk with you,
until the sun is lost at sea,
without the moon taking light
with stars melting into new stars far away,

walk with me, until the night
transforms into a new face, that of dawn
that paints itself slowly,
is washed away by the first slants of rain

that glitter as dew drops on fields of corn,
heavy and pregnant for the calloused hands
of sharecroppers, battered hats on smoke-scarred
lungs,

along the edge of mountains,
and rims of lost lands,
until we find the mouths of rivers,
opening into the sea,
that welcomes the sun

it has been so long since I took a walk, you might have to hold my hand so I don't wander off
