Ghost Story

Ghost Story

A Poem by Nathan Durham
"

Sort of experimental, I guess.

"
My heart is alone, cold, and dead
Where we lived is now an empty shell
Your goodbye song still echoes in my head
Once fiery passion, now flames of my hell

My lips remember the taste of your kiss
My arms tightly embrace the open air
Each memory repeats what I now miss
I think of you as I plunge into despair

The love I had for you has never died
You continue to haunt me every night
To forget you, I have constantly tried
But this phantom of you is always in sight

A ghost of our past with me will forever stay
Tormenting me with what will never be mine
No matter what I do, I cannot ever get away
You linger in my mind, until the end of time

This story has been told time and time again
About a one way love, living past its last breath
And a doomed heart walking the earth in pain
Of childish hopes that are resistant to death

There's a reason why it's so hard to move ahead
It's hard to admit that you no longer belong to me
My memories of you are still burned into my head
As the words of a ghost story become my reality

Very passionate, and very well put together. An excellent read, with the stanza below standing out to me...

A ghost of our past with me will forever stay
Tormenting me with what will never be mine
No matter what I do, I cannot ever get away
You linger in my mind, until the end of time

This is a poem that deserves to have been read much, much more. It, also, deserves rave reviews. To have so much depth coming from such a young poet makes me wonder what is to come. It's beautiful; simply, beautiful!

Wonderfilled Robert Frost-style rhyming! You are, sincerely, an up and coming talent. Give us more!!!

wow, this is haunting and holds an air of romance, that sweeps through
the wording like october wind, sensuous and expressed with defining features.
definitely worth as great reading, thanks for sharing your talent.
