![]() The Mistakes of the PastA Poem by Nathan Durham![]() I've screwed up before all in the name of infatuation.![]()
I don't want to repeat the mistakes of the past
Acting on a whim Trading it all for what will never last Living out a sin Maybe I could understand The words of warning With knowledge in my hand And stop my heart from warming I am running on a track A cycle of hope and then despair Good sense it seems I lack For the rules I have no care My feelings are a derailed train Certain to do nothing But bring people pain I want to stop, but my soul keeps burning Why is my emotion so wrong? Dragging me down to hell The wave of pain so long My senses are unwell I've done wrong before If only you could see inside my mind Burning down to the core The memories you'd find... I will not let this be repeated The same dark path, endless trail The ritual will not be completed This time I won't fail The words have been spoken As a single darkened heart Is being broken And torn apart Now I'm reopening wounds of old Trying to fly once more Loving again when the fable has been told On the same errors as before Again I have courage, again I have hope Lacerations closing, bones in a cast The skills to forgive and to cope Riding in on the mistakes of the past
