Silver LocketA Poem by Nathan DurhamAn interesting idea that came to me in a dream. It's about returning to a better time.
Remember one day, not too long ago?
When our paths happened to twist From that day I would always know That you would make up for all I missed I thought you were special, sent from above A miracle, an angel, a special smile Someone to drag me into falling in love Yet again, to follow someone like a child You know, your presence always felt so great My cold heart, your warming touch A vivid fantasy, a dream like state Was why I always followed you so much... Then came the time of the great revelation That some things simply aren't meant to be I was suddenly sober from my intoxication When I learned there was no "you and me" I was crushed, I was choking I wanted to bleed, I wanted to cry Trapped in a blaze that carries on smoking My only hope for consolation was to die... Then I flashed back to another time Before I was hurt with what doesn't exist Before my web of poetry, dripping blood on every line Before my heart detached itself for this emotional tryst The time was when you first smiled bright At something funny I said The happiness, the hopes and giggles that kept me up at night I froze that moment in my head Now I cling to that mental snapshot Neatly wrapped in a little silvery chain Now when I'm encroached by remorseful thought Memories of happier times soothe my pain Now I keep you in a silver locket Just like you keep me bound in this emotional rope Past conversations, aspirations, and your beauty in my pocket Only preserving my last selfish hope
