A Poem by Nicole

I want to be free!

I don’t know where to go?

I see birds fly south overhead.

I long to be with them.

A buck stands alone in the forest.

So calm and peaceful.

I wish to feel that way.

Calm…

Peaceful…

Kittens frolic in the grass.

Bounding away to be chased by other siblings.

I want that youth, the family, the fun.

No priorities…

No responsibility…

A dog runs through ocean waves.

Fetching a stick for its owner.

I step to join him.

The salt burns my skin, the water freezes my skin.

The fun disappears.

A fawn begins to stand.

Wobbles but stands tall.

My legs feel that way.

Wobbly…

Useless…

Kids crowd the hallway.

Laughing, talking, ignoring.

Will anyone notice if I disappear?

Will they care that I wanted to leave.

To be free!
