Sonnet 1

Sonnet 1

A Poem by Matt Shutler

Ice shatters hope long lost while the tears freeze.

Night encroaches upon desolate dreams

As time fails and ash cascades in the breeze.

Crimson brilliance falls as it so gleams.

Memories fade to dust forever lost,

Powers creating now destroying all.

Sullen eyes watch the lives end at no cost,

Unyielding to cries yet I still call.

Hatred burning fiery chaos so dire,

Eternity spent searching now undone,

The heart’s pressure echoes its desire,

All for weakness and entrapment of one.

Your face will now linger in sight of mind,

Heart broken, soul unlocked, for I was blind.

This is beautiful. So much intensity fills this sonnet that it seems to rise off the page and cut like a knife, while holding a tight grasp on my throat. It screams for freedom yet if freedom is had it seems to be at the expense of a life. It's brilliant.

I like this one- a lot.

Short, simple, and sweet. This is definitely better than what I'd first read of yours. You captured the bitter tone and feel just right, and I love your rhyme.

I have to compliment you-there's a lot of writing potential with you.
