The Dance With Death

The Dance With Death

A Poem by Justin Littlefield
"

A sonnet. How once I longed for that beautiful doom

"
Lay me to rest my dearest damsel death,
the one who has taunted me oft with ease
Free me from this vexed reluctance of breath
so we may join hands in eternities.

How you tease your frigid lips of disease;
although robust, I've longed for the cold kiss.
I dreamt that we danced to dark melodies
under those moonlit markers of abyss.

Twas pure bliss on that eve we wasted clock
While we twisted to the lull of the tombs.
My heart stopped as we coalesced and locked
...forevermore, I'll loathe that beat's resume...

Again we'll meet, and that night let us live
For mourning, a wake no one can forgive

Wow, I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet. It's quite beautiful, which funny enough is a word I don't often use to describe poetry. This makes me think of someone yearning to die, but can't quite bring upon themselves the act of suicide. So instead they dream of that temptation. You delicately presented each thought of death in a romantic sense, just wonderful. "taunted me oft with ease" oh the gift that death truly gives, life can just be so damn hard at times. I enjoyed the bit of ironic humor "and that night let us live" and that last statement is so powerful "for mourning a wake no one can forgive." I wish I could do this poem more justice in my review, but know it's very well crafted, in my opinion.

A beautiful poem about death.
"I met death upon a battlefield.
I met her on a dance floor.
Sweet death whispered. Death is always near.
Sweet sleep of death is the destine place for you one day."
I did some study into herbal medicine. The poem made me think of the good conversations I had with many good people. Strong description gave life and vision to the outstanding poem.
