The Brave Legs of a Coward

The Brave Legs of a Coward

A Poem by MoonShine

She stands on the cliff overlooking the ocean.

Without hope, and helpless, she looked down Pondering whether she would drown.

Above her stood a lighthouse with a shining crown.

Giving a light of hope, to those that travel beyond.

She looks down the cliff ready to end it all.

Her life empty and cold, she wants to jump and fall.

And yet she has fears and seeks a hold.

A hold to cling to, an excuse to live for.

I thought you were going to jump, her legs shook with laughter.

Why aren't you giving me the orders?

Be silent, for I still doubt my own desires.

If death is your desire, then you will burn in fire.

I don't believe in Hell, she told her legs.

Well, all the while.

Now make up your choice, your cowardice makes me tired.

Why do you legs torment me so? Haven’t I suffered enough?

Obviously not enough to make a clear choice.

You ask us why we torment you so?

We only have shame to be the legs of a coward.

Alright then I shall jump, prove to you, you are wrong.

If you jump you only prove us right.

There is no bravery in self destruction.

How foolish is it to fear living life and ending it with a cowardice decision.

What do you legs know about my life?

All you can do is walk, jump, and run.

That maybe so, but it is us that taken you where you have wished to go.

And so, we claim we know a lot about you.

But what do you know about us? Your legs?

Daily we walk accompanying you everywhere you go.

We listen obediently without giving a word of woe.

We have no control over our fate,

Forever are we controlled like food on your plate.

Yet we live on, thankful for another day.

Even after a jump down this cliff, I can happily say,

I accompanied my master all the way.

All these years I have merely listened, but for once I wish to be heard.

We legs have no control over our lives,

While you live fully in control of yourself.

You can conquer the world, if you learned how,

You can save the world, if you start now.

So why do you seek to throw yourself off a cliff?

We legs humbly disobey your order to jump into an abyss.

Leaving those words behind, her legs plummeted to the ground.

And she found herself crying, glad that she alive.

is this a poem or a story? but still it goes well and good..just some of the word/s that I noticed was in the last line "....glad that she alive." Must it be "...glad that she's alive." though its really good..moral lessons learned! Very Impressive..
Just keep on writing..

You wrote a excellent story. I had to read again. Wisdom in your words. So many strong statements in the words. We must go on. Next road maybe better and we may find peace and happiness.
