ANOTHER REASON WHY I LOVE MY WIFE...#5A Story by Wayne Riley
When you've been together for a long time it's easy to take each other
for granted and miss those little things about each other that once upon
a time you'd think unthinkable. I suppose it's the same in any long
term relationship where love makes way for complacency, though not mine,
thank goodness, albeit my relationship with Ralph, my pet Tortoise does
become a little strained, especially when he's getting ready to
hibernate for the winter. I tried to be
the good owner a couple of years ago and join him but after a couple of
hours the straw kept getting up my nose and i kept falling out of his
box. Thankfully the similarities between Ralph and my wife end there,
although she has been known to walk slowly round the house in a rucksack
chomping on a piece of lettuce and sleep in as late as 11o' clock.
But, unlike Ralph she has always paid very close attention to me. Take
the other day, for instance, she put down the life insurance forms she
likes to read, looked over at me and in that deadpan humour of hers, the
kind that has me rolling around on the floor quite literally in
stitches says, 'i see you're wearing the present i made for you.'
Impressed at how quick she'd noticed, i smiled appreciatively back, blew her a kiss and paid her the ultimate compliment. 'I can't believe it, darling,' i said, gushing with pride, 'it's uncanny how much you've made the scarf look like a noose!' To which my wife did something i've not seen her do since i fell off the ladders whilst cleaning our windows; she burst into an uncontrollable fit of laughter. And you know what they say about laughter, it makes your shoulders go up and down... © 2014 Wayne Riley |
