Cancer in the House

Cancer in the House

A Poem by Joy C
"

I just read an article about cancer, and it states that one out of seven Canadians has cancer. It is shocking. By writing this piece on Cancer, I hope that people have the diease or the ones who are close to them can get some consolation. And welcome ever

"

Sun beating on the scarf
Around Mom’s head
Proudly displayed

Her face always bears
A brave smile
Perfectly curved and shaped
For the sake of her kids

Only when the tiredness and physical pain of her treatment
Catches up with her
Does she,
Lapse into a depressed state
The Smile vanishes into a frown
Striking out at us
When any small mistakes occur

Us kids tiptoeing around her
Fearing any conflicts
That would leave her hopelessly alone,
In her mind
For we are all she has

Cancer makes us grow- up
Too soon

However,
Her love for us is as strong as
The brilliant summer sun
Lights up every subject on the ground,
Selflessly,
Consuming itself

My mom,
So strong,
The most beautiful woman in my eyes

You have picked out a topic that is very insight full and open minded. having a parent or friend with cancer does make you grow up faster or not do things you would normally do around them. the fact that you use a mother in example is the fact about this poem i love! also another point that I love is the last stanza cause to a mom (or any one that takes care of someone) it's hard to keep a smileand stand tall even when you feel awful.
hope to read more from you soon!

This is a beautiful tribute to your Mom. It really touched my heart. My mother passed away from ovarian cancer in 1974. Now, my twin sister has it and I am devastated. There are no words for expressing my feelings, knowing I will lose her too soon. You are having to grow up too soon and experience so much sadness so young. My heart goes out to you.

Very nice piece. My father has cancer and my mom's mother had cancer. Despite what most people believe to be true, cancer doesn't completely deplete your life or the ones around you. It has it's tear-jerking moments, but so does any other disease. It is the person's will and spirit that gets them through the day...not just medicine and chemo. Great job keep it up. ^_^
