Two knitted hats

Two knitted hats

A Poem by Joy C
"

dedicated to my mom~ I really appreciate all the time, love, and other sacrifices you have devoted to me.

"

My mom, knitting in the corner
Knits away the endless time in Canada
The day stretch out blankly before her
Knitting, occupies her hands

My mom, knitting in the corner
On her head, there is a knitted hat
Covering up her boldness
Knitting, banishes her pain

My mom, knitting in the corner
Hears the ringing of the phone
The once respectful teacher of an elementary school
Flinches.
The conversation is incomprehensible to her
Knitting, engulfs her with blessed emptiness

My mom, knitting in the corner,
Swallows back tears of homesickness
Her job of thirty years,
Our house, her “real” home
Gone, all gone
Knitting, grants her a brief relief from memories

My mom, knitting in the corner, always
With one in her hands
Another on her head
Always, always
Then, she unravels.

This is absolutely heart breaking. We are always trying to find a way to hide from what hurts, in so many different ways.

I was extremely touched by this poem.

Wow, still feeling it.....

This is such a heartbreaking piece, but I could still feel the love in every single word.

Wow, that ending was unexpected, but then I like to be surprised. Good description of her loss and how she copes with it. Good write! Barbara

Very touching, almost tragic in ways. Well done!

Joy, this is touching. I know a lot of people that use crafts to bury pain. Staying busy seems to help...My grandmother use to knit and crochet and I rarely saw her that I didn't see her with a project in her bag to occupy her time and mind. I am glad your mom has something to keep her mind active. Bless her heart. Your love for your mother and your gratitude towards her is enamoring. I am thanking Nuala for sending this my way. God Bless, Carole

Your love for your Mom and the empathy for her pain and emptiness has been captured with such palpable poignancy. Heartfelt and beautiful.

Your unique subject matter, the love for your mother, and the story of something tragic happening makes your poem such a special writing. I like the consistant way your mom knits throughout, especially on the phone and in the ending. Your poem is excellent!
