Dancing In The TwilightA Poem by Wesley Dingler
I turned into the driveway
Of a house you could never consider a home, And I took you to another place Some feared would lead you beyond the rubicon. They had never seen you dancing in the twilight. They had never seen you so Unapologetic or Unafraid of the coming night. I'll never forget the look on your face then, Or how the morning light shone in your eyes, And I'll never forget the looks on their faces The moment they realized they were right. One mother cried into the night, "Where has my baby girl gone?", But never questioned in the light Just where she herself went wrong. But I know just where she went wrong. She had never seen you dancing in the twilight. She had never seen you so Unapologetic or Unafraid of the coming night. You slapped the world right in the face When you showed it you are scarred but not scared. And that's one of many reasons I still love you today. Another being, of course, the wonderful life we have shared. You were born into the world one way, Never given a soldier's chance. And I was born again on that day You dared to take me as your man. © 2024 Wesley DinglerAuthor's Note
