Until the Day I Die

Until the Day I Die

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

          For Allie...

I see something in the loveliness of your smile.

Something perhaps only angels can define.

I will follow your love,

and I will follow you to the ends of the earth.

I would follow you anywhere

  without ever asking why.

I feel it in my heart

that there is no one else like you.

I feel it in my soul

that there is no one else as true.

If I said I know where life will lead us,

  that would be a lie.

But I know how I will fair

as long as I have you by my side

Time and time again

I have questioned if living life is worth the trials.

But now all questions abstain,

and I feel myself lost in the warmth in your eyes.

Life is indeed worth the trials,

as long as you have love by your side.

In your presence alone

  I have gone from becoming

to being

  to belonging.

I have seen the beauty in you

that was hidden by the evils of this world.

I hear angels sing through

the voice of a seemingly ordinary girl.

You are the type of woman

that God forgot how to create.

The type that no good man

could bring himself to ever forsake.

I feel it in my heart

that there is no one else like you.

I feel it in my soul

that there is no one else as true.

I don’t know where life will lead us,

  and I don’t care why.

But I know when we get there

I will be by your side

until the day I die .

Thank you.
I get that this is a personal poem written for an audience of one. For a wider audience, it might work better if we were discovering these truths along with you as you uncover them. Great material regardless.

As a simple poet I would interpret this poem as an exploration of love, devotion, and the transformative power of a deep connection with another person. The poet's words convey a sense of awe and reverence for the person they are addressing, comparing the beauty of their smile to something that only angels can comprehend. This imagery suggests a transcendent quality to their beloved's presence.

The poet expresses a willingness to follow their loved one unconditionally, emphasizing their commitment to be by their side regardless of the circumstances. This demonstrates a deep sense of loyalty and devotion, possibly reflecting the concept of the anima/animus archetype in Jungian psychology, where the individual seeks completeness and fulfillment through their connection with the opposite gender.

The poem also touches upon the existential uncertainties and challenges of life. The poet acknowledges that they do not know what the future holds, but as long as they have their beloved by their side, they feel secure and capable of facing any trials. This echoes Jung's idea of the importance of individuation and finding meaning and purpose through relationships and connections with others.

The poet expresses a profound sense of appreciation for their beloved, recognizing their unique qualities and the transformative effect they have had on their life. The references to the hidden beauty and the voice of an ordinary girl carrying the songs of angels suggest a perception of the beloved as a source of divine inspiration and spiritual elevation.

The poem concludes with a declaration of eternal commitment, stating that the speaker will be by their beloved's side until their last breath. This underscores the depth of their love and the profound sense of belonging they experience in the presence of their beloved.

Overall, this poem celebrates the transformative power of love, the importance of deep connections in finding meaning and purpose in life, and the awe-inspiring qualities of a beloved individual who can awaken the dormant beauty within oneself. It resonates with Carl Jung's ideas of individuation, the transformative potential of love, and the search for wholeness through connection with others.

A beautifully constructed piece of conditional craving and love for another, no matter where it takes you....the want to be with someone night and day forever until death is superb, heavenly, ravishing! And, you have made it very clear in your mind that this is for life....marvelous words to portray your feelings!
Best, B
