Ordinary GirlA Poem by Wesley DinglerOutwardly, she seemed like an ordinary girl-- nothing more and nothing less. But within she contained an extraordinary pearl unlike anything I would have guessed. And after she asked me if I could spare just a moment of my time I felt something unlike anything I had ever felt in all my life. And she said, "Take me as I am. Hold me while you can. Tomorrow isn't promised for any of us, and that's something I need you to understand." Then, I could feel the stars align from the first moment I held her hand. And she looked into my eyes as if I was the first and the only man. And if you don't know what that feels like then you have my deepest sympathy, my friend. To have and to hold the apple of your eye is the highest honor among men. So I said, "Take me as I am. I'll hold you as long as I can. Tomorrow isn't promised for any of us, and that's something everyone needs to understand." The first time she kissed me, I felt time freeze. I felt love and I felt loyalty and I felt frailty-- yes, I even felt frailty-- but I felt love above all of these. And to think, outwardly, she seemed like an ordinary girl-- nothing more and nothing less. But within she contained an extraordinary pearl unlike anything I could have guessed. Have I been truly blessed or was I just lucky in time? I don't know but as I wake in bed next to her they sound the same in my mind. © 2024 Wesley DinglerReviews
