We Drink from the Waters of Babylon

We Drink from the Waters of Babylon

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

  I.

We drink from the waters--

The waters of Babylon--

Never wondering ever from

Whence they have come--

    No, never asking;

    Only ever basking

In the shade of a silent corruption--

  II.

We wade in the waters--

The waters of Babylon--

Whether pondering escape

Or kingdom come--

    Feeling too glad to

    Feel too sad to

Look beyond ourselves to what we've done--

  III.

We bathe in the waters--

The waters of Babylon--

Not only us, but also

Our old and our young--

    Even as we pray now;

    Even as kings lay down

In the Holy of Holies, before God and Son.

You so welcome. And thank you so much.
We seem to care about Babylon and the Bible and way the world was, and now how the world is very different ...we actually think the new world is corrupt and we should heed these signs and do something about it, not like the good old biblical days. Let's look beyond ourselves and "see what we have done"

'We Drink from the Waters of Babylon
Wesley Dingler,
Psalm 137:1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion. The Jewish people here are conquered and in exile. Your above writing is a fitting depiction of how far our own country has fallen. I do wonder at its clear corruption from the inside out. Found myself thinking of the filth of waters so detestable...a spring not cared for which does not bring life but death.
Thanks for a great writing!
Blessings,
Kathy
