King of Oceans

King of Oceans

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

A king of oceans,

  but not of the tide,

conceived of emotions,

  and thusly, he died.

Sirens came to give his eulogy,

  came to sing their lullabies--

sing of his shame and you too will see

how came the sea to be full of lies.

Then, conceded devotions

  left him totally blind,

while heated emotions

robbed him of any sense of time.

He held the key to all he'd seen,

at least, that was what he thought--

but the sea has and needs no king...

A warning to the wiser among Old Salts.
