To Earth and Flesh Compounded

To Earth and Flesh Compounded

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

  I.

To earth and flesh once compounded--

After mirth and breath

Have been ultimately grounded--

  By night or noon--

  Beneath sun or moon--

  Let earth entomb--

  Let earth consume

This heart that once pounded.

  II.

To heart and soul believed to have ascended--

By eyes and minds, which

Long now to be amended--

  By light or shade--

  As earth beds are made--

  May God and grace

  Enshrine and replace

These emotions so newly offended.

  III.

To life and light long-remembered--

After both life and light

Have ultimately surrendered--

No more love, no more grief--

  There under the shade trees--

  May they all soundly sleep--

May they all rest in peace--

These worthiest of worthy contenders.

the grief, the pain we suffer will end up beneath or on top of the earth or ocean... You show just how connected we are with all of these; and no matter how we live our lives, we will end up in the same place.
Beautiful write.
Best,
B.
