Little Drummer Boy (2014)A Poem by Wesley DinglerWritten as tribute to my band's drummer who died in a car wreck, on the tenth anniversary of his demise. In loving memory of Jason Harrell (1986 - 2004).
I. Even though I only knew you For the first two decades of my life, I can say, in complete truth: You've never been far out of my mind.
II. Not a single day has gone by, Since the day I was told the news, About how you'd passed on, out of life, That I haven't felt a twinge of the blues.
III. Though there are pictures of us, So young as fifteen and sixteen, None of them captures both of us As accurately as recent dreams.
Oh! Little Drummer-- Little Drummer Boy-- I still remember Hearing music above all the noise--
IV. Yes, my friend, I miss you so, But this is how I've gotten along since. I can't just let you go, And I know it may not make any since--
V. But it makes perfect since to me-- Maybe--I still see you there on the stage; Maybe--you're not just dead to me; Maybe--I'll always remember you just this way.
VI. Always, you were her only child, And, at times, you were my only friend; At times, you were another brother of mine, When I felt so lost and lonely within.
