The Lover’s Heart (2018)

The Lover’s Heart (2018)

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

Even I know not to question a lover’s heart.

But you don’t know just how hard

it was for me to see you happy in another’s arms.

It was a stark sight.

So I turned to Jim beam and hard light,

to neutralize what looks like a bar fight,

in my heart’s eyes.

Even you know not to question a wanderer’s art.

But I may never know how hard

it hurt when I plunged the knife into your heart.

It was a car ride,

that turned to a wreck with the next hard right.

And left love divided there in the dark night,

in your heart’s eyes.

And I know how hard your heart’s tried;

through good times and through hard times.

So how can I question it, if his arms is where your heart lies?

Even I know not to question a lover’s heart.

Even if you never know just how hard

it was for me to see you happy in another’s arms.

Raw, passionate, heartbreaking and a thought filled poem Wesley, articulate, clever and nicely done. I feel for both parties in this. To which is remarkable. Since it's about the one who is rejected and hurt. But by your words. I see the other side too. Interesting, thought-provoking. And a tale inside a tale.

'The Lover's Heart'
Wesley Dingler,
From admittance of love to seeing it's loss to finding remedy in imaging. This poem covers a lot. The imagination is where a person deals with loss and you did a good job of using yours as well. The writing shows the inner working of a unique and personal story. I found this gritty and real.

Good poem about having to let go when you don't want to and the struggles with it.

Thank you Talia Im glad you liked it.
Sadly sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until it's gone and that was the feeling I got when reading your lines. Sad that romance can end in a car crash where all get hurt, some more than others.Nicely expressed on a universal theme that many will relate to. All good wishes.

This poem really resonates. Your exploration through your effective juxtaposition of these two contrasting lovers, compelled by dissonant motivations, is an emotional triumph of a tortured soul, but one that realizes the other person is now happy, regardless of how tragic the consequences for the other soul.

Truly touching.

All the best,

Lanny

A great story type poem filled with many sad and passionate details, written by a golden heart and pen. Some things we can control in life, others we can't. Some things we can forget, others we can't. Some things we can appreciate, others we can't. Relationships are very sensitive and fragile. But your poetry is might, my friend.

It is never easy to let our lover go, much less seeing them happy with another. But sometimes, it turns out to be for the best. Perhaps one day, she'll venture back to you...it's a heartbreak and a journey all in itself. A lover's heart can often be difficult if we don't admire or analyze it the correct way. Love has many forms, both good and bad, we're just here to experience what all it has to offer us.
