Aboard (2015)A Poem by Wesley Dingler
I can't climb with you aboard This idea that you will soar, With the ground so far beneath us. There's nothing I want more Than to show you how you're adored, But going out like this won't redeem us.
In spite of everything I could believe, I can't believe you're doing this to me. I don't know who you take me for, But I'm not the--
Take us back down to the golden ground-- Close enough for me to jump-- And leave little more than a bruise or a lump--
It's not how you envisioned us, I know, Now that the serendipitous becomes woe-- It's no walk in the park for either of us. There's something different now, though; Something ominous that fuels your glow. Something that walks unseen between us.
In spite of everything you could conceive, You can't conceive what you're doing to me. I don't know who you take me for, But I'm not the--
Okay, we're closer now to the golden ground-- Close enough for me to jump-- And leave little more than a bruise or a lump--
So, this is Good-bye, Anna, my love. This time, I 've finally had enough-- (here i go) But, I'll be below, Should you ever grow Tired of a life of Looking down on us From so high above. © 2020 Wesley DinglerReviews
