Sinking Ships (2015)A Poem by Wesley Dingler
I. We weren't two ships passing in the night-- We were two ships chasing their own light-- But both ships have now run aground in spite Of how we say we tried to navigate with all our might--
II. I tried to hold you more than you were used to-- But, baby, admittedly, that was all-- You were colder to the touch than I am used to-- And now, somehow, this is all my fault?
Well--we're sinking now-- No matter what we do-- We're sinking--and how-- And to you it's all news-- But everyone else can see all too well
we're doomed.
IV. You were the only one I dreamed of--even-- After the dream had begun to subside-- And you were the first one I thought of--even-- When I opened my eyes without you by my side--
V. I can make the most of my loneliness-- Still I wish you'd never shown me this-- Now whenever I start thinking about it-- It makes my heart start sinking down, it's--
Well--it's sinking now-- No matter what we do-- It's sinking--and how-- And to you it's all news-- But everyone else can see all too well
we're doomed. © 2020 Wesley DinglerReviews
