(82) The End

(82) The End

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

The people slept, dreaming.
Silently the World was screaming.
The Universe was reaching out,
No one heard the silent shout.
Even dark forces could not pretend,
That things were coming to an end.

And twenty billion souls came awake,
As they witnessed the Universe break.
They could hear a distant rumble,
As suddenly Galaxies would crumble.
The end would take all, everywhere,
The end was coming for everyone there.

Beings gathered together from every World.
The end came, they were ready and curled.
Holding each other, all were a different kind.
Stars ended and there was nothing to find,
Poets cried and found the words to write.
And the end came with a blinding light.

At least it was instant death for all beings. I always feel like chicken little yelling to everyone that the end is truly coming but not the end of the world or universe just the end to technology and mass consumption of oil. I think when the world ends we will already be dust on the surface of the earth.

I think your poem takes a quick look into what it could be like in the end, maybe by then we would have confirmed or denied the existence of other intelligent life, maybe we would have found a way to break the speed of light or maybe it will be like it is now. I do agree that when the time comes poets will be still writing from their hearts. Nice write.

I think many fear this is what is in store for us in 2012. I choose to not even worry about it. What will be, will be. On the other hand this is one of your finest pieces Chris :)

I love how you've ended the poem with that last line. These could well be the opening narration sequence of a Steven Spielberg movie!
Though this poem is worthy of being much more than just that. I love the serious atmosphere and the epic feel it has. Amazing work yet again :)

M.A.G.N.I.F.I.C.E.N.T!
This piece was like a wake up call...very well delivered. Very streamlined flow to it and a message to be drawn.

I always wonder about the end too sometimes. There's no definite way of expressing it to me, but you've done such a significant period in time justice with this description Chris.

AWESOMELY DONE my friend.

"holding each other, all were a different kind"...it would be sad that beings would have to reach the very end in order to get to hold each other...
