(77) Dream The Day Away

(77) Dream The Day Away

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

Close my eyes to sleep

Then I am sleeping deep

I have no words to say

So I will dream the day away

Dream of a World of peace

Where all war will cease

Where no killing takes place

With no discrimination against race

No child will ever starve

Everyone has food to carve

No famine is out there

Everyone is treated fair

Never crimes saved on tape

No woman will ever face rape

No drunkard fist to feel

No one will ever steal

No dog or cat is rejected

No illegal drugs are injected

Dreaming of only harmony

Never fear of any harm to me

But when I awake from my dream

The world will still silently scream

Of a dream that can not be true

No real dreams for me and you

oh! Wow! Good as new! I'm speechless...what should I say? It's perfect! Every line hit me like a bomb! I wish I too could write a poem as good as you can. This is so wonderful! And so do I hope our world would be this perfect! It makes me sad thinking that it can never be...

PS: this is going to be in my favorites!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the world could be as perfect as your poem? I love the peaceful mood and images you've created here. Great job, Chris!

Very valid sentiments, succinctly expressed. A sad but poignant ending. Nicely done!

mm, I got about two stanzas in and went 'BAH, he can do better than this!'... Rhyming is week. Optimistic concept, but displayed as if you're throwing something together for your high school teacher. Rewrite! I say, Rewrite!
And, as always, keep up the good work. ;P

Wouldn't it be nice to awaken from such dreams to find they've come true? I might enjoy waking up every morning much more is this was the case :)

Every aspect of this poem is perfect: the rhyme scheme, the words, the title, and the meaning behind it is so clear to understand, lovely job.

1998? That was what, like, two years ago?

This ends with a poignant and sad twist on the optimism you build up throughout. One starts to forget it's a dream halfway through, and it is always jarring to be stirred from pleasant reverie.

And "I have no words to say, So I will dream the day away" is pretty much the story of my life.

Would that it could come true. It boggles the mind when you think how most people share this sentiment, and yet the wars go on....and the many other forms of pain you describe.....why? Well spoken Chris.

The dream of most of us in the world. No rape/violence and war would be a world where children would be safe and dreams possible. A outstanding poem.
