(54) Girl

(54) Girl

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

Hey girl I wonder why you do
Things that just seem absurd
Things that you do to you
To make yourself hurt

You take a knife and twist
And you make a deep cut
Why do you cut your wrist
Pain in the eyes you shut

I know you are feeling down
People knock you about everything
And then the sorrows you drown
Please do not let them win

I see you swallow another pill
Wanting to kill your fear
Just throw them out the window sill
Please remember I am here

Author's Note

Chris Smith Welshpoetcs
This poem was written for my friend back in 2004, she was going through some bad times.
I know it's not the best of poems, but it helped her knowing she had friends that cared.

i have to say that maggielou reviewed this piece wonderfully. it is a lesson that everyone has to learn on his/her own. and it's a difficult and painful one. often while desperately seeking the approval of others all we really want is our own...and that's a very hard thing to give to oneself. it is something that i am glad is being addressed and that there are people out there wanting to help...or at least show they care.

what a lovely thing to do.. writing a poem to help her make it thro!
sometimes words are just more powerful than any actions.. and this is one of those powerful poems not because it is well written, but because it has a noble purpose behind it. love it!

It's the best kind of poem Chris, one written from the heart in support of someone you care for during their dark moments. Well done.

your heart is in it deeply~ self inflicted physical pain is almost a narcotic form of distraction from emotional agony~ one pain cancels out the other . . . .but only for a little while because the cut will scab over and heal but the emotional nuances remain as deep wounds~

Great emotion in this writing. Not the best in structure or wording, but a good poem still :)

I think its very sweet that you wrote this for your friend. All of us need to know we have someone to lean on when we're going through hard times. Very beautiful poem, Chris.
