(54) Girl

(54) Girl

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

Hey girl I wonder why you do
Things that just seem absurd
Things that you do to you
To make yourself hurt

You take a knife and twist
And you make a deep cut
Why do you cut your wrist
Pain in the eyes you shut

I know you are feeling down
People knock you about everything
And then the sorrows you drown
Please do not let them win

I see you swallow another pill
Wanting to kill your fear
Just throw them out the window sill
Please remember I am here

This poem was written for my friend back in 2004, she was going through some bad times.
I know it's not the best of poems, but it helped her knowing she had friends that cared.

i have to say that maggielou reviewed this piece wonderfully. it is a lesson that everyone has to learn on his/her own. and it's a difficult and painful one. often while desperately seeking the approval of others all we really want is our own...and that's a very hard thing to give to oneself. it is something that i am glad is being addressed and that there are people out there wanting to help...or at least show they care.

Such a fantastic tribute to someone deep in hurt. Your friendship should be well applauded as your really stepped up and stood up for her. This is completely beautiful. I shall share this whenever my friends experience the same! Nice!!

Excellent write my friend! Alot of people can't handle pressures of life and bad times, they seem to think booze and pills and even cutting themselves makes their pain easier to handle. when in the long run their hurting themselves more. A friend can sometimes help them through it as you did yours!!

Excellent write, Chris. It is difficult for people to understand the need to cut or take pills to drown out the world for a while if they've never suffered from deep depression. You become so numb and you just want to feel something, anything.. a cut, a burn, or drift into a dream state where the numbness and pain no longer exist. I relate so well to your friend and hope that she has sought help since 2004. Thanks for sharing this!
