(9) Why Can't I Have A Cake?

(9) Why Can't I Have A Cake?

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

Why is the sky blue?
Why are you so tall?
Why do birds fly?
Why can't I have a cake?

Why are kittens cute?
Why do you go to work?
Why have I got to go to bed?
Why can't I have a cake?

Why won't you let me watch cartoons?
Why do I have to have a bath?
Why is Superman not real?
Why can't I have a cake?

Why have I got to be quiet?
Why shouldn't I ask why?
Why am I annoying you?
Thank you Daddy for my cake.

I just love this Chris.. It brought a smile to my face reminding me of the days when my son would ask those questions...! I'd say you can have cake for breakfast if you have spinach for lunch lol.. And the end..I hope your never quiet. Your poetic voice is to wonderful:) x

So true!! We see our children just keep at it until they "win", and you have captured this fact of parent hood "right on"!

the last stanza is a teardrop amidst the toys of childhood~ questions~ questing~
the pattern of the composition has the subtle child like quality that makes the content of the write all the more profound~

LOL! I think many parents will relate well to this cute write. I see another side though, the learned behavior of the fine art of manipulation. :)
