Jack; Jill

Jack; Jill

A Poem by Well Blow Me Down!
"

relationship story. Terse.

"

Jack hopes;
Jill “Nope”s.
Jack cries;
Jill lies.

Jack invites;
Jill bites.
Jack’s resigned:
“Jill’s not mine.”

Jack’s single;
Jill mingles.
But it’s not right;
No sleep at night.

Time just passes:
Work and classes.
Jack’s alone;
Then Jill phones:

“Jack, my dear?”
“Yes, Jill, I’m here.”
“Jack, I’m sorry.”
“Jill, don’t worry.”

Jack waits;
Jill hesitates.
Jack feels dread
Then hears it said"

“I am your friend:
“That shouldn’t end.”
An instant’s fright
Then, “Jill, you’re right.

“I can not be
“Your enemy;
“It hurt to think
“Our link’s extinct.”

“Our friendship lives:
“A bond that gives
“Joy when applied;
“Pain when denied.”

He’s shocked, a bit:
He’s fine with it,
Though he’s not got
That love he sought.

He doesn’t feel he’s been cut short;
They’re lovers of another sort.
And if Jill wants him in her world,
It’s really not a loss, then, girl.

Jack laughs;
Jill gasps.
“Are you mad?”
“No, Jill, I’m glad.

“I really thought you hated me.
“I tried to cope without you, see?
“And I could do that, dear; and then,
“I’d wait till I could smile again.”

“Oh, Jack, don’t cry! You’ll smile anew.”
“I’m crying, Jill, but smiling, too.”
And with a simple cell phone call,
Something’s restored. It’s good; that’s all.

“Dear Jack,
“I’m back.”
“Yes, hon;
“Fear’s done.”

One question left.
Jill holds her breath.
“Are we all right?”
“Yes…now. Good night.”

Two hearts, repaired!
I’m glad they dared
To talk again.

God bless. Amen.
