Beautifully Out of Place

Beautifully Out of Place

A Poem by Deborah Dhue
"

A poem about a vampire who sings in the church choir.

"

They say she can’t enter hallowed ground

What they don’t know is she saw it all happen.

She was there, she was around

To see the crucifixion.

But the others do not fear her,

Nor do they know her secret.

The blood-red lips and almost white hair.

For God, they sing love sonnets.

Her voice, a unique timbre

A tintinnabulation

Shiny, bright

With a church bell’s reverberation.

A tear she sheds

For the lyrics cut her deep.

She wishes she could be dead

So she could finally sleep.

There’s a charm about her

And her perfectly white teeth.

Even the minister bids her farewell

As she steps out into the sunlight.
