Alyssa

Alyssa

A Poem by Deborah Dhue
"

A poem about a girl

"

She had skin like brown clay

And hair like fragrant cloves.

The smell of her was

Like peach shortcake and

Her lips tasted like

Cinnamon brandy.

She had soft brown eyes

Like the dog on Hush Puppy shoes.

Her laughter was like that

Of pixies singing

And her smile lights

Up my world like a supernova.

She may be plain to some,

But to me she is a museum piece.

Her name is

Alyssa.
