The Simple Steak

The Simple Steak

A Poem by Deborah Dhue
"

A poem I wrote about my undying love for the McDonald's Triple Cheeseburger.

"

I don’t have a steak,

I want one, but I

Have not a single bite.

Not a slice to my name.

But, in my hand,

I have the smallest

Of all the steaks;

The most simple form.

It comes with bread,

Cheese, and a salad, too.

There are a variety

Of sauces from which I can choose.

No knife is needed,

No fork or spoon.

Chopsticks or bowls,

Hell to the no.

There are no bones,

No butchering needed.

The toppings can be fancy

Or cheap as can be.

I take my first bite.

I feel my teeth tear through

The soft bread

And the beefy juices fill my mouth.

A single tear

Slides down my cheek

As I savor and chew

The most beautiful food.

This is my true love,

It was only two dollars.

Oh, how I love thee,

McDonald’s triple cheeseburger.
