The Writer's Plight (Virginia Woolf)

I could be pretty in dim candlelight

When the moon is high and the sun is down

Beauty enhanced by radiant starlight

Made up and ready for a night on the town

But darkness digs deep underneath my eyes

Multiple candles enhance the blank page

Pen in hand, ready for the next surprise

Imagination takes the center stage!

I write through the night to combat my plight

Pen to ink, ink to page, till dawn's first light

Small tribute to all us writers who sacrifice sleep and social lives to pour our essence onto the page. Written with Virginia Woolf in mind.

Jesse, really enjoyed this poem. Putting word to page is frustrating, rewarding, tedious and fulfilling. Very good imagery in describing dressed for a night on the town then shifting gears to all night writing. You are as good at poetry as story telling. Nice work. Richie B.
