The Shallow Man

The Shallow Man

A Chapter by Robert Francis Callaci

where does one find time
to open ones heart
to see if there's anything inside
that can help ones mind
from making false assumptions
that nothing is real by touch or feel
for the body is just an automation
running in space going no place
in a race with no other
contender in contention

their must be more to this
it sounds like so much emptiness
from one who dwells in
meaningless contemplation
does the dark heart seek
comfort from the pain
 playing some petty foolish game
so that he may gain
respect and admiration
for his verbal constipation

one hopes not to be

 as shallow as this
but unsatisfied need

outweighs such a risk

leading one to stumble

in following one’s bliss

 the ego grows larger
the more we try to lull it

 to sleep
