The Wilted Rose

The Wilted Rose

A Poem by Robert Francis Callaci
"

a rose by any other name

"

I

the haunting sighs of silence

whispers wordless profanities

to the wilting rose

shriveled and curled under crushed petals

that once bloomed ripe

but now lays soured and sore

with dimming hope of ever being

what it was once before

old glories that never were

 but might have been

 but will now never be

 ceasing its struggle to return

to the wounded womb

while blood soaked arms

and battle scarred legs

crawl back to that dark lonely tomb

 to dream of endless night

in the twisted loop of eternity

II

memories fade

amongst the tattered ruins

of doubt

 the king betrays the queen

as she greets him in his bed

instead of finding passion

she finds herself dead

 he cuts her into pieces

and feeds her to his knights

as they fall upon each other

  to lick the fouled remains

   the fool laughs

as the wolves gnaw and feast

upon their prey

III

the wilting rose

 just needs a little water

 and some sun

this is edgy, humorous and brilliant Bob, a pleasure to read, I particularly like the dark style and flow,
and wording, rhythm has many features that make this a great poem, In metaphor #1 feels like a a war,
#2 is coming home, and 3 would be, the cold hard realities of life, and what experience is, although
its great how you left this open to specific interpretation, thats what it feels like to me,

Oh my! I found the 3rd stanza quite hunorus really after what passion couldn't fill was a hunger.
Love is destined to be the battle in the end. So when we seek to find the comfort and when we don't get it some love will still remain love one persons prey is another persons prey as well, Love your metaphor you used, this is very well written. You are a master of words.

Emotions are too strong which create dark images. It's somewhat powerful but the strength is not that of braveness but of cowardice. This thought is strengthened by how this piece ends. The wilted rose, afterall, only seeks attention---love! A great write.

Good writing Bob, I not call myself a poem lover but I love Edgar Allen Poe. You have a little of that same edginess to your writing. I will definitely read some more.

I will not try to analyze it, I will just tell you that I think it is very good and that I enjoyed reading it. This is one of the best poems I've seen on here. Very nice.
