Silence brings Reason

Silence brings Reason

A Poem by Anne Lyons

In the library I sit,

attempting to drown

out the sound of whispers

and occasional

laughing at the

latest jokes, etc.

I wonder if people

ever get out of themselves

and the world around

them.  Do they ever

take time to sit and

be still; reflect

on life.  It seems

technology has

depleted everyones

mind, to the extent that

they know no quiet.

Silence to some

brings nothing,

but to me it brings

everything --

Reason.

Reason is what

keeps me going.

And without it

I'd be merely another

person lacking the

ability to reason well.

A most wonderful poem. I also wonder if people ever get out of themselves. Perhaps many people are afraid of silence. Perhaps they feel the need to fill the silence with human noises.

This poem is pure treasure to my soul, dear poet. Thank you for sharing your inspiration.
