Velvet Box

Velvet Box

A Poem by Anne Lyons

I wish the label you gave

yourself wasn't true.

I guess it's because a

part of me still wants you,

and not in that desirable

kind of way.

I want you for you and

the person you are; not who

you try to be, but the person

I know you are.

I believe your capable

of much more than you

give yourself credit for.

Your not just another person,

your someone who dreams

far too much and

acknowledges tiny

details.

If only you saw yourself

through my eyes, you

would see your most

appealing parts that

attract me to you.

I realized over time

that having you in any

form was better than not

having you at all.

Life is simple that way.

I think this poem is one of the most sincere poems I've read in a very long time. I also think it's relatable and it's simplicity makes it so wonderful. A lot of people think they've got to get all fancy to write a "great" poem but it's obvious some of the best are the most simple! Great work!
