Atlantis

Atlantis

A Poem by P.S. Buford III
"

...its been 3 months since i wrote it and i still don't know whom its for. lol

"

My grey matter ripples like

water trapped between two strips of land

forcing its way to a place where

other streams of consciousness pour

into one another.

My rivers run restlessly as if

my current thoughts are spurred into

motion by a memory, pleasant in recollection

but bittersweet at the present moment

knowing that I lack what my heart suddenly longs for

Words find themselves stranded on a beach

At the mercy of your radiant nature

Thirsting for another dip in the pool formed

when your flow finds my own

Desperate to be washed away when our souls collide

Content to touch the floor, regardless of depth

Because my goal is to know the secrets beneath

Your waves, I wonder if any poets before me

Made their own graves in attempting to navigate

your seas when the winds were intolerable

Found their ships sinking when faced with a storm

they swore before starry skies

as their feet left mother earth

that their sails were woven strong enough

I could just as easily let your tempest

consume my efforts, keep my affections submerged

our secrets rendered unknowable by anyone

too scared to brave things beyond the break

as if anything lovely could be found in the shallows

No, i know that even if you opened your floodgates

I'd be content to swim within, or rather allow my

inner self to search your spirit

As if long-lost treasure's waiting for my understanding

Even if I get pulled in by your undertow never to see

the surface again.

I love my air but I think i could forgive myself

for drowning in your essence

If it means i can house a portion of your presence

Right behind my eye lenses so that when they ask

whats on my mind they see your name floating

like a marquee across my countenance.

Now let me drift on your memories
