To all the friends I’ve loved beforeA Poem by AleenaThis is really just something I wrote while spiraling about one of my friends. We are still best friends! Her fingers long and lithe graze The edge of my shirt and I grab them And grip them tight. She takes many forms, goes by many names. I’ve witnessed her transform endlessly. She grows before me still And I live in fear of the day she becomes Too big even for me. When the time comes, When I am paralyzed by freakish awe, I remember all the times she’s visited me before. And I know again I must allow her to crush me. In a year, maybe two, she will come again As a pathetic mite the size of my thumb. But eventually, she will grow to epic proportions And squash me like the bug she once was. And I will remain forever trampled, unchanged. I will never grow. © 2021 Aleena |
