Pain You Inflicted

Pain You Inflicted

A Poem by warriorKat
"

Meh.

"

Blood spatters against the sidewalk.

As the midnight breeze rustles the trees.

You look up at me with pleading eyes.

The gash across your face, quite distracting.

I strike again.

This time, you don’t dare meet my eyes.

You know you’ve done me wrong many times.

Squinting through the darkness,

I struggle to comprehend your expression.

It should always show remorse.

Frustrated at what I see, I strike again.

I see no regret. No remorse.

Your left eye is swollen shut and now bleeding.

You dare to look me in the eyes.

You smile.

I feel disgust spread across my face.

How dare you find humor in this.

Utterly confused, I do nothing but wait.

Wait to see what could possibly be making you so happy.

At a time like this.

Your brown eyes stare into mine fiercely.

As if saying “I won’t give up?”

I narrow mine, confused.

You try to stand up, but stagger back to your knees.

I watch coldly.

Still slightly smiling, you part your lips to mouth something to me,

But you cough.

A thin trail of blood seeps down from your lip.

Smiling in satisfaction, I watch your pain.

It’s what you get for all those lies.

Still not backing down, you continue to stare.

Why do you stare at me this way?

“Freak,” I say, as I kick your stomach.

Your eyes close slightly, wincing with pain.

But you still don’t stop staring.

Again parting your lips to speak.

“Hurt me all you want, I won’t stop loving you.”
