Wishing On the Wrong Kind of Stars

Wishing On the Wrong Kind of Stars

A Poem by K

The realization of so many things can be explained with one simple misconception.

Wishing on a falling star.

That fiery, spontaneous moment a fleeting star dies, we wish on it as though the universe will exchange the life of that falling star for a miracle.

Why don't we wish on the stars still in the sky?

The ones that are ever present and giving us light, the glimmering constants in an abyss of darkness.

We don't because they are always there, and we assume they always will be...

Easy to overlook and not missed because the lack of their presense is not felt.

The human condition of wanting what we can't have, desiring that which is no longer attainable, ever present in all the passion filled decisions we take. Seems logical that we have been wishing on the wrong stars.

So tonight, I wish on you, unnamed light in a sea of billions others just like you.

Because I see you and you'll be there tomorrow.

Tonight, I see you.

Tonight, I see myself...

No longer chasing pipe dreams.

No longer seeking the misguidance in a rest of laurels.

We seek illusions in the dark, without knowing they are best seen by candlelight. I cherish you, light, in a way I haven't for a while. Tonight i crave the silence that envelops the melodies swaying my new found inspiration. All my senses currently satisfied with simplicity and clarity.

Submitting to my vices is my natural state. Why fight them? Why hide them?

Tonight, my eyes catch up with my mind, and tell my heart to follow suit.

Nice writing. I like to be reminded that the moment now is more important than the moment gone yesterday. If only we could capture that moment . . . but it's already passed. Chasing illusions, because we cannot see the beauty of that which is available to be touched and cherished right here, right now. Eyes, mind and heart together can remind us.
