My Drug

My Drug

A Poem by i am a wanderess

heart rate increasing
blood rushing through my veins
my mind deceives me
hallucinations fill my brain

a touch on my skin
every breath becoming paper thin
my vision is blurred
words are transferred

whispers of i love you
the voices breaking down the wall
there is no time to undo
each one begins to fall

a drug unlike any other
i take one but need another
withdrawal is unbearable
nothing even comparable

a high without any lows
like a dream, i suppose
a sigh with every injection
leaving me filled with love and affection

I think this is a very interesting and complex piece of writing. On the one hand, while love and affection is meant to give the high without the lows, there is also talk of hallucination and deceit which suggests darker undertones and an experience of love not being everything. I would be interested to know what thought processes created this work and I would certainly read more of your poetry. i appreciated the complexity of the poem expressed in language that I could understand

I agree. Alive and tempting words.

Love and affection. Powerful medicine to keep us healthy and sane. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
